NHECM programming isn't limited to schools alone! There are many groups and organizations out there who have enjoyed learning more about natural history and love meeting our animal exhibits. NHECM has offered programs in the past for State parks, Boy Scout events, 4-H camps, summer library reading programs, outdoor festivals (such as the Blue BluffFestival in Aberdeen, Mississippi) and Earth Day events. We are always looking for more areas to visit and organizations to become involved with.
NHECM has been a proud participant in the Carlyle Lake "Earth Day" Celebration for the last several years.
This is an article about our 2005 Earth Day visit printed in the Breese Journal of Carlyle, IL. NHECM Biologist Bob Tarter would like to thank the Army Corps of Engineers for allowing him to come visit his "home town" every year for this worthy cause.
Below are some photos from our most recent Earth Day celebration in 2007 at Carlyle Lake, Illinois. Special thanks to Nicole Dalrymple, Public Affairs Specialist with the US Army Corps of Engineers and others for allowing us to use their wonderful photographs...
NHECM also attended the "Blue Bluff Festival" located in Aberdeen, Mississippi. This outdoor celebration takes place in the Fall near Tom Bigbee Waterway. NHECM would like to thank the "Blue Bluff Festival" for already inviting us back for next year's festival on October 11, 2008. Thanks to Patsy Claxton for sharing her photos with us of last year's event...
"Bob Tarter was quite a hit at our annual Blue Bluff Festival in Aberdeen, MS held October 2007. It did not slow him down one bit to work out of a tent with hay bales for chairs. He wowed children and adults alike with his “Animals of the Rain Forest” show. He takes command of the audience immediately and somehow works his magic so unsuspecting adults in the audience (like me) agree to hold 60 lb pythons and gigantic bugs. You leave with a true sense of what conservation is all about. Great Performance!!!!" Em Walters, President - Blue Bluff Festival
